Björn Steinz was born in 1970 and grew up in Oberursel im Taunus, a city close to Frankfurt am Main. He works as a freelance photographer and lecturer for Photography and Visual Culture in the Czech capital of Prague - the center of his life since 1994.

2012 - 2024 Freelance photographer and lecturer at the Anglo-American University in Prague. Commissions for international agencies, NGOs, newspapers and magazines in the field of reportage, portrait and documentary photography.
2022 - 2024 VG Bild-Kunst scholarship holder for the project "The experience of the name of homeland", Sudeten Germans.
1992 - 2017 Project "Finding Elvis": In search of the Bosnian refugee Elvis Causevic - 25 years after the documentation about the consequences of the war on site.
2013 - 2016 VG Bild-Kunst scholarship holder to continue work on the life of the Roma in eastern Slovakia.
2009 - 2011 Assistant Professorship, Keimyung University Daegu, South Korea.
